Bad choice of words...

Howard commits $8m to prevent suicide

Prime Minister John Howard has stressed the need for business and community groups to play a role in reducing Australia's suicide rate.

Mr Howard made the comment at a charity dinner in Sydney tonight, when he announced the details of the latest suicide prevention funding.

More than $1.5 million of the $8 million has been allocated to projects targeting Aboriginal communities.

Mr Howard says while there has been a downward trend in suicide numbers, more than 2,000 take their own lives each year.

From the ABC.

Couldn't they have used "plegdes" or "promises"? Am I the only one who finds the use of the word "commits" so close to the word "suicide" in a headline slightly wrong?
